Knitting Porn

Back in february Cast-On (my podcast of choice) included a piece about ‘Sweater Porn’. Sweater porn being, when you get so wrapped up in the knitware the actors are wearing, you stop following the plot of a film or tv show.

Last week I had my own ‘Knitting porn’ moment.

I Captured the Castle – based on the book by Dodie Smith.

A love story set in 1930s England that follows 17-year-old Cassandra
Mortmain, and the fortunes of her eccentric family, struggling to
survive in a decaying English castle.

Luckily (for the knitters) the book is much better than the film (as ever – though the film is pretty good and definately not terrible.)

So either enjoy the knitware, and read the book afterwards to find out what was going on, or read the book first, and then enjoy imagining yourself in some of the great 1930’s cardigans and jumpers.

(Here is a flickr set of the best examples from the film.)

  1. I love the idea of knitting porn in films. I kept elbowing people throughout Harry Potter about the incredible knitwear that the Weasley Family had. Ron had the best blanket to snuggle under!

I have wanted to see I captured the castle and read the book – you have convinced me to read then revel in the knitwear!
