Assemblage is huge and on my needles…

assemblage

Currently on my needles in my version of Assemblage by Norah Gaughan, knit in Sublime Angora Merino that I got an incredibly good deal on at The_Black Sheep.co.uk. (Seriously – if you are on a yarn diet, DON’T click on the link. £1.99 a ball is too hard to resist – which is why Ibought30balls! Mind you Assemblage takes 18…*)

I’m tweaking the pattern like crazy – mainly because I prefere the gauge I got, rather than the gauge I need, and to satisfy my general ‘knit everything at the same time, rather than in parts’ habit.

I’m amazed that I’ve almost completed the body already. On a good night I get about an hours worth of knitting done between FB going to bed and my turning in for the night. I don’t have the energy for much else at the moment.

(* Mind you, I don’t think it’s going to take 18 balls at this gauge. The body is going to take 5 1/2 balls, then all I need to do is knit the sleeves and the collar, so unless I’ve got something very wrong, that’s not going to take 12 1/2 balls.  I’m guessing I’m going to have 5 balls over. Enough for a shoulder shawl maybe? That would be very cool. 🙂

A small FO

purple C20th yarns beanie

FB’s been growing out of his hats with impressive speed. This is the final one for this winter, (which still fits but which has been retired to the woolies basket while this mild, early spring weather holds.) It’s knit in 21st Century Yarns 4ply, left over from the Barbara Shawl (ravelry link) I knit a couple of years ago.

It’s just a simple bog-standard beanie, that I knit up while FB was fast asleep, W was at his brewing group, and I was – finally – getting to watch Hellboy 2. (Good film, btw. 🙂

First Rhubarb of the Year.

first rhubarb of the year 2009

Today I lifted the bucket and picked the first rhubarb of the year.

I’ve never felt as happy that spring is here as I have this week. The willow tree is unfurling it’s leaves, and the warmer weather* has dragged us outdoors more than usual, for evening walks, and morning walks, and time spent digging (W), and sitting (me) and sleeping (fb) at the allotment.

* Jaq (via text yesterday): I’m wearing sandles!

Me: Me too!

(Note: Getting the dyeing up and running again is taking longer than I hoped, and it’s something that is going to need patience – from me – to get working properly and safely. But I will get there, and there will be new stock in the shop soon. ish.)
